Spring 2008 Community Impact Grants
Aldo Leopold Nature Center
$150,000 toward the Acorns to Oaks Campaign, a mix of endowment and capital programs designed to provide expanded programming and outreach to build upon the Center’s proven success in environmental education of children and families.
American Players Theatre
$50,000 toward the Touchstone Campaign, a capital project to build a new 200 seat indoor theatre and a new production support building to increase audiences, facilitate continued artistic growth and provide greater capacity for educational outreach.
Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society
$25,000 toward the production of an Arts Entrepreneurship Summit, a three-day event welcoming artists to explore the principles and concepts of arts entrepreneurship, learn practical tools for pursuing an arts career, and participate in workshops with nationally known artistic entrepreneurs.
Centro Hispano
$20,000 toward the Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Readiness Training (START) Program, a specialized training and internship program to provide candidates with the skills needed to pursue one of seventeen different construction trade apprenticeships available in the Madison area.
LVM Dreams Big!
$50,000 toward the construction of a boundless playground at Elvehjem Elementary School providing access to children of all abilities. An additional $5,000 was allocated to match an endowment challenge to ensure the park’s maintenance in perpetuity.
McFarland School District
$25,000 to develop and implement a model literacy/instructional coaching program that provides teachers with new methods and teaching strategies for increasing student engagement and achievement.
Rhapsody Arts Center
$15,000 to facilitate the Recreational Music Making for Seniors program, a four-year initiative to bring hands-on musical instruction in a fun, stress-free environment to area seniors through senior centers and nursing homes.
Rising Tide Institute
$25,000 challenge grant for the Park Street T program, a planning project to study and evaluate the employment resources and needs of the Park Street/Beltline corridor in Madison, ultimately creating a series of action recommendations to promote workforce development and quality of life in this neighborhood.
Village of Rockdale
$25,000 to develop Rockdale Mill Park, including the preservation of the Rockdale Mill, and construction of a viewing shelter, small amphitheatre and pedestrian footbridge. The preservation and new construction will increase accessibility and connectivity of three parks, creating additional impact when the park becomes a trail and canoeing head in 2010.
Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters
$50,000 toward “Getting to Purple: Moving Beyond the Red and Blue of Partisan Politics,” a four-part conversation series focusing on moving political discourse beyond power politics, personal attack and partisan gridlock
Wisconsin Academy for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY)
$10,000 toward the expansion of the Insite program, a unique, results-oriented, business-centered internship program for academically advanced, socially mature high school students to participate in a paid 8-week summer internship with various corporate partners in Dane County
